Nordstrom's big lease will aid art museum
The Seattle Art Museum received a Christmas present from Nordstrom on Tuesday.
The retailer has announced plans to lease about three-quarters of the museum-owned office space in downtown Seattle that Washington Mutual had hired before its collapse.
Check out WaMu, carved a big hole in the finances of Sam: The savings has paid the museum $ 5.8 million per year for the 240,000 square meters, it leased from Sat
The tentative agreement with Nordstrom should make up about 75 percent of the deficit of the museum, said Matt Griffin Group, Pine Street, who represented the SAM in the negotiations.
"This has certainly been difficult, since Washington Mutual left," spokesman museum Calandra Childers said. "We are delighted to have this letter of intent with Nordstrom."
In total, Nordstrom said it plans to hire 265.000 square feet in the high-rise complex on Union Street between First and Second avenues that SAM and Washington Mutual had partnered to create earlier in the decade.
What's in health care proposals for 5 Americans
As Congress moves closer to a final bill of health, many Americans want to know: What's in it for me?
The answer is: It depends.
On your age and household income. Whether you own a business and if it's big or small. Whether you are insured today, which provides that assurance. Ultimately, it depends on how negotiators House and Senate will merge the proposals, and how their vision is translated into legislation.
Five Americans have shared their stories with The Associated Press. Here's an educated guess on how the package of health care looming in Congress could affect them.
___
Name: Holly Brown
Home: Round Lake, Illinois
Age: 28
Occupation: Student, working part time, receiving unemployment benefits.
Median household income: $ 15,000.
Coverage: The insured, but are struggling to afford it.
Brown was laid off last year from a job she had held for four years. She remained insured because of the government Cobra, which allows workers to stay on a health plan for 18 months after leaving their jobs, if they pay premiums.

I started my exploration of the reform of health care in July.
"The federal government will accept a double standard: Any discussion on rationing - or guardianship of the government - is off the table unless you are a member of a tribe of American Indians or native community in Alaska with a sort of pre-paid insurance program (many treaties, decrees and laws were specifically to care for American Indian Health obligation of the United States ")," I wrote at the time .
Six months later - or mid-way through this project - I am struck by country, how the Indians is both part of the debate on healthcare and yet absent from the wider debate.
We are part of the conversation every critical moment of blowing the Indian Health Service as a failure of government. We also included in the larger reform measure - the Indian Health Care Improvement Act - has been added to the bill larger. It's a good thing because this bill (unlike the original) has been terribly difficult to move through Congress.
But we are absent from the conversation because neither Congress nor the executive has made clear what lessons can be learned from history and experience of the Indian healthcare system as it applies to the broader question of reform health. It is particularly frustrating to see politicians who are quick to point out the weaknesses of this system, even if they never offered adequate funding or dreaded the idea of rationing.
Examine how the money issue goes beyond Indian Country: If the federal government can not fulfill it's promise relatively small, how is it going to fix again on the sixth of saving a few thousand pages of legislation? Indeed, the history of federal funding - and the operation of a system of health care - should be applied to designing a system of health care. It is the ideal, anyway....
Washington State Business Insurance: Local Seattle shopkeepers ...
&Nbsp; Metropolis, a greeting-card and home-décor store in Seattle's Phinney Ridge/Greenwood neighborhood, was on the verge of going under this fall when owner Terry Heiman came up with a way to make ends meet: Get a roommate. Rising Stars, a nearby children's boutique owned by Elonna Marci-Salmon, moved in with Metropolis on Greenwood Avenue North in late October. The arrangement allowed Rising Stars to avoid a steep rent increase and helped Metropolis stay afloat by bringing down its costs. Rising Stars takes up a third of the retail space and covers $1,100 of Metropolis's $3,310 monthly rent. They share the same bathroom, but they retain separate employees and operating hours. If you're space permits, buddying up with another local business can mean bank for the both of you. Not only are you able to work off each others customers, rent payments can become much easier, and new ideas and friendships can develop. This is not really an uncommon relationship(think Borders and Seattle's Best Coffee). The trick is to develop a mutually positive business relationship that will drive the same customers to both stores. The story of Metropolis and rising stars is good, but there are better ones.
