Service Salaga divert cardholders insurance

Providers of health services in the East Gonja district, turn away patients with the Caisse Nationale d'Assurance Maladie (NHIS) cards, as program managers have not paid for services rendered from September this year.

Mr. Kasim Abdulai, District Manager NHIS who disclosed this at Salaga said that the arrears would be paid in January 2010.

He does know when he appeared before the District Assembly to inform members about the operations of the scheme at the third ordinary session of the Assembly at Salaga.

As part of efforts to improve local participation in governance, some heads of key institutions are required to inform the assembly on their activities.

Mr. Abdulai said some 400,000 people in the district had registered with the system and more than 150,000 of them had received their national identity cards allowing them access to the delivery of health care in any what part of the country.

Mr.Alhassan Mumuni, District Chief Executive has expressed regret at the situation and promised to dialogue with the heads of health facilities in the area to reconsider their decision and to treat customers the NHIS.

"It is unfortunate that these things happen. After this meeting, I liaise with the heads of health facilities to better see how the problem will be solved because the money will surely come for them to be paid, he said.

The Assembly also deliberated on a number of issues including the cost of fixing the extension of electricity to rural communities to find ways to provide Salaga cassava plant with raw materials for operations and the approving an amount of GH ¢ 15.00 as per diem for members of the Assembly and the purchase of motorcycles for them.
